Cao Zengsen: The organizational work is challenging
The 2007 International Road Cycling Invitational Road is somewhat unique among the Good Luck Beijing sport events in that the cycling races take place in a relatively open environment, making the organization of the event a true challenge. Cao Zengsen, the venue manager of the event, had an interview with the media.
About the media
One of the characteristics of this tournament is that a big number of media reporters participate in the reporting."The number of applicants has reached 296 journalists, far exceeding the previously expected 150 ones. These applicants include 123 reporters, 70 photographers and 68 television media staff. This has really exceeded our expectation," said Mr. Cao. Despite the larger-than-expected media lineup, the organizing committee has not accordingly reduced the quality of services. Instead, the bright and spacious hall, independent lounges, and continuous supply of tea and fruits have deeply impressed the people.
About volunteers
This event is the most challenging with very strict requirement for volunteers. The 512-people volunteer team mainly consists of volunteers from the Capital Normal University, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture and the Central Academy of Drama. "Volunteers at the finishing point should be in position seven days in advance and volunteers at the starting point should be in position five days in advance. Only those qualified volunteers will be allowed to mount guards after they have accepted the rigorous training and passed the examination. These volunteers will not only get familiar with their positions and work processes, but also engage in physical labor." Mr. Cao said. "In particular, their task are heavier a few days before the start of the race."
About the track
The track for this race is the one for the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games. Mr. Cao revealed that the organizing committee has done a lot of substantive work in order to meet the international requirements. "Such work includes renovating the road, widening the road crossing, adding guard fences, establishing rigid and soft fences, and adding protecting shields and anti-crash barriers at the corners. Besides, the committee has installed tunnel lighting facilities to ensure the lighting consistency both inside and outside the tunnel," continued Mr. Cao. These effective measures will greatly improve the athlete safety. Finally, Mr.Cao said, "The organizing committee's fruitful work has been recognized by the UCI officials and the officials praise the route as the best and the most beautiful one."
